Cinnamon is a spice that originates from India, China and Sri Lanka being one of the oldest spices known to man having been mentioned in a 2700 BC book on Chinese botanical medicine. There are many species of cinnamon, with Cinnamomum verum (Ceylon cinnamon) and Cinnamomum cassia being among the most commonly used.

They found that the first group saw average uric acid levels drop from 8.6 mg/dL to 6.0 mg/dL compared to a lesser drop from 8.0 mg/dL to 6.5 mg/dL in the Allopurinol group.
